1. Cost
Although this is not always accurate, the cost can be a good indicator of a quality perfume. If it’s too good to be true, then it probably isn’t. Essential oils are not cheap, and it takes time and skill to extract and formulate them into perfumes. Quality oil perfumes are usually made from costly distilled oils.
2. Safety standards
The perfume must meet specified safety requirements. A quality fragrance oil must be free from dyes, residues, and other toxins. The purity of the essential oil is necessary for the scents formulated with them to be stable.
You should know that purity does not always translate to high quality. An impure essential oil is one that has been intentionally altered.
This may be done by blending a high-quality oil with a low-quality essential oil and marketing it as a high-quality oil. It may also involve using synthetic ingredients to improve the aroma of an essential oil or carrier oil without disclosing this fact to the consumer.
3. Buy from a trusted seller
Department stores tend to be safe options for buying perfume. You get to examine the product at close range and you can even return the perfume if you later find out that it is a counterfeit product. At the stores, you can even ask questions like the batch number.
If you’re buying online read reviews, see if the vendor is PayPal verified, see if they have a return policy, and pay attention to the grammar on the site.
4. Research the perfume
Check the manufacturer’s website to see if they have provided information about the product, pictures of the product, and placement of the bar code. You may even discover their official distributors on their website.

5. Check the packaging
Usually, authentic perfumes are sealed to prevent tampering and leaking. The cellophane is tightly wrapped around the product. If the perfume is not sealed or properly wrapped, you may want to double-check if you are getting the original product.
Boxes made from thin and flimsy materials usually contain counterfeit products. You can even scan the barcode on the product to the manufacturer’s confirmation email or number. Also, note to check and confirm the control, batch, and serial numbers.
6. Examine the bottle
Original perfume bottles are well-crafted and smooth. Imitation bottles tend to be plastic or roughly made or worn out.
7. Smell the difference
Even though inexpensive perfumes can replicate the same notes as their expensive counterparts, they rarely last as long as their expensive counterparts.
In the absence of the right essential oils, the scent will fade almost thirty minutes after application. The concentration level of essential oils in a perfume determines its intensity and longevity on the skin.
8. Read up the fragrance notes
Check notes that the manufacturer claims that the perfume contains. Confirm if the notes you smell are the same with the perfume notes that the manufacturer listed.
9. Test the perfume
If you want to test it out on your skin, you should be careful because the imitations are highly likely to give you adverse reactions.
Testing helps you; confirm the fragrance notes, check for adverse reactions, know how it smells on you, and ascertain the scent’s longevity.
